11 [F] Squadron

Flying the Typhoon FGR4 on the frontline is the epitome of vRAF’s operations. Taking part in regular training and large exercises this is a highly rewarding aircraft to fly. Also on 24/7 standby for Quick Reaction Alert, there is no end to a Typhoons capability.

120 Squadron

The Poseidon is a powerful surface and subsurface hunter, working closely with simulated naval assets to find and destroy hostile naval combatants. In peacetime the Poseidon also provides search and rescue capability, having powerful sensors and cameras that can locate and track downed aircraft or sinking ships.

617 Squadron

The F-35B specializes in low observability operations, with its stealth capability and immense electronic warfare suite it serves to suit the needs of the future battlefield. One of the key features of the F-35B is its STOVL capability, we regularly operate from HMS Queen Elizabeth and Prince of Wales all over the globe.

10 Squadron

The Voyager is a modified Airbus A330-200, capable of aerial refueling two fast jets at once, extending their combat range significantly. When not supporting frontline fast jets, the Voyager undertakes Air Transport taskings, carrying upto 291 passengers and associated cargo.

27 Squadron

Airframe : Boeing Chinook HC.4/6
Location : RAF Odiham

The Chinook is capable of carrying 55 combat ready troops or 10 tonnes of mixed cargo. Being able to operate from airfields, naval vessels or unprepared landing sites the aircraft is highly versatile. In addition to its wartime role, the Chinook supports the UK emergency services where required and can fly search and rescue operations hand in hand with the Poseidon.

70 Squadron

Whether it be tactical cargo delivery, paradropping, supporting special forces, conducting MERT or just general air transport, no day in the A400 is routine. Capable of transporting 116 combat ready troops, vehicles, pallets and even a Chinook, the A400’s generous payload of 37 tonnes provides a huge rapid deployment option.

99 Squadron

Airframe : Boeing C-17 Globemaster III

The C-17 shares most of its capability with the A400, however it boasts a longer range and heavier payload. It has the ability to conduct high-angle steep approaches into short, make-shift runways. 99 Sqn have long been tasked with high priority troop and cargo movements, with vRAF C-17s regularly been tasked to support overseas exercises and operations.

45 [R] Squadron

The stepping stone onto larger multi-engine aircraft, the Phenom course is designed to orientate pilots with the military way of flying heavy aircraft. While flying the Phenom pilots are assessed on all forms of VFR and IFR navigation to ensure full preparedness for the tactical demands of frontline flying.

60 [R] Squadron

Learning to fly a helicopter is incredibly challenging, the instructors at Shawbury nurture students to competent pilots ready for the demands of the frontline. Learning to operate a Juno low level and in confident areas is a helicopter pilot's bread and butter, and on 60 Sqn you will learn to perfect this.

29 [R] Squadron

On 29 Sqn you will be taught how to fly and fight the Typhoon, the RAF’s primary swing-role fast jet. A highly challenging but highly rewarding task, operating the Typhoon safely on the Vatsim network is not for the faint hearted.

14 Squadron

The Shadow R.1 is a specialized King Air 350, equipped with state of the art mission equipment allowing intelligence gathering throughout the electromagnetic spectrum combined with powerful optical sensors. A satellite communications suite allows for upload of data to ground stations in real time greatly improving situational awareness.
